January 16, the opening of the exhibition of the famous Far Eastern marine painter Valery Shilyaev, in which the staff and cadets of the Nevelskoy MSU was held at the House of Artists. The opening of the exhibition by Valery Shilyaev is of particular importance not only for Vladivostok, to the 160th anniversary of which it is timed, but also for the Maritime University, which also celebrates the anniversary this year: 130 years since its foundation. An exhibition of works by Valery Shilyaev adorned our main building for more than five years. It was impossible to get used to these pictures: cadets and students, teachers and officers stopped near them. The amazing energy and beauty of the paintings, the laconicism and skill of the artist penetrated the souls of the most inexperienced viewers. Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Nevelsky Alexander Yuzov spoke about this at the opening of the exhibition. He emphasized that Valery Shilyaev’s paintings, besides the aesthetic ones, also have cognitive and educational components: they tell about the history of the Russian fleet, about the heroic development of the Far East by our ancestors, about the Kreiserok schooner, about the Tsushima battle, the defense of Kamchatka and many other pages in Russian history. The lasting value and legal basis for pride for all of us, the audience, is the fact that the name of a wonderful master is forever associated with Vladivostok and Primorye.
